GBM #4: Down Syndrome and Alzheimer's

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Isabel Rivera as our guest speaker at our next ForgetYouNot meeting!

Isabel Rivera, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. In Dr. Elizabeth Head’s lab, she studies how mosaic Down syndrome—when only some of a person’s cells have an extra copy of chromosome 21—relates to Alzheimer’s disease. She is trying to find out whether this condition lowers or increases the risk of Alzheimer’s-related brain changes, combining gene data, protein studies, and brain analysis to better understand this important question.
